Why ‘centering’?
In pottery, ‘centering’ is the practice of creating symmetry and alignment with your piece of clay before working it into a form. This process helps get rid of air bubbles in the clay and creates a more smooth uniform piece to work with as you start to add height and shape to your piece.
Centering takes practice, focus, strength & patience. We apply these same principles in life as well. By practicing perseverance, focus, strength and patience with ourself and others we can live a more ‘centered’ life.
